Should we be reassured by ‘flat’ employment in Japan and the US? Reading new job openings in Japan and employment growth in the US separately

In Japan, the active job opening ratio remains flat. In the US, the number of employed persons and the unemployment rate ‘did not change significantly.’ If you look only at the headlines, employment in both Japan and the US appears stable.
